Daniel Weiss

Research Group Leader Deep Brain Stimulation at the Center for Neurology

Dr. Daniel Weiss is the leader of the Tübingen scientific working group on Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). With a background in Electrophysiology, and Movement Disorders he is a distinguished expert for DBS therapies. As such, he developed novel stimulation algorithms for resistant freezing of gait and introduced the concept of additional nigral deep brain stimulation. This translates into a large multicentre randomised controlled trial. Moreover, he uncovered in a research project from the German Research Council (DFG) both cortical and neuromuscular correlates of freezing events, and these findings are believed to translate into customised adaptive therapies in future. Moreover, he described genetic predictors of deep brain stimulation outcomes in tight collaboration with Prof. Dr. Rejko Krüger.
